Sonesta Maho is located on the dutch side of the island, a mere two minutes away from the airport, next door to Maho Beach.

Maho Beach is located on the Dutch side of St. Martin (Sint Maarten) on a spit of land near Simpson Bay Lagoon, right next to Princess Juliana International Airport. If arriving on the island through the cruise terminal, you can take the free shuttle bus from the dock to the beach.

You can drive from one end of the island to the next in as little as 30-45 minutes (without traffic), and explore the best things to do on St Maarten.

We checked-in to SXM airport 3 hours before our 5;30pm flight,so we walked easily to the beach at the end of the runway. Bring your swimwear its has fabulous turquoise sea and powdery sand,two nice but expensive beach bars serving good pub grub.

World famous for its location at the end of the Princess Juliana International Airport runway, Maho Beach is one of the best known and most out-of-the-ordinary beaches on St. Martin. Tourists come in large numbers for this impressive experience. The airplanes that land and take off here are a major attraction!

Upon arrival in Sint Maarten, you must have: a U.S. passport valid for the duration of your stay; a completed Embarkation and Disembarkation Card (ED-Card). You can complete the ED-Card on the airplane en route to Sint Maarten or in advance by using ED-Card Online.

The beach is gorgeous, love the sea turtles and the cute little food truck area is awesome! “Best beach of our trip!” My favorite beach of all we visited and that includes Magens, Trunk, Honeymoon and Coral Bay.

Maarten is really two islands in one! Most tourists arrive at the Dutch side, Sint Maarten, while the French-owned Saint-Martin has its own traditions and character. The border between the two is free and open.

It can be loud, but well worth the trip. You probably won't find a similar experience.

Approximately every 15 minutes a plane passes over Maho Beach, but you can always make sure at what time the planes are passing by visiting one of the surrounding restaurants or bars as they all have the timetable for planes.

Very nice hotel, very well located. Less than 5 minutes by car from the airport and on the beach of Maho.

Enjoying the beach and the planes is free, so splurge a little at the Sunset Beach Bar, which has a great vantage point. If you're not too scared, you can also try some windsurfing.

Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, Casino & Spa doesn't have airport shuttle service, however, there are taxis readily available and we are 5-7 minutes away. If you've booked through a group or charter, shuttle service may be provided to you by the company you booked with.

One Island, Two Airports

PJIA, airport code SXM, connects to major gateway cities. A flight from New York is just a 4-hour trip, and flying in from Miami is just a 3-hour flight away. Known as the Caribbean Hub, there are plenty of regional connection flights within the Caribbean as well.

We often get the question that how long does it take to drive around St. Maarten. Well, it depends very much on the traffic. Without any traffic, around 50-60 minutes, but roads can get very busy during peak hours in Simpson Bay, Cole Bay and Marigot.
